¶ Gray Zeitz is a celebrated letterpress printer and literary publisher based in rural Kentucky. This interview explores how the fine press book tradition and techniques he learned on an iron handpress influenced his work with more pragmatic jobbing presses. Includes extensive commentary by Andrew Steeves and two original reduction linocuts by Michael Hepher of Clawhammer Press.
Specifications: Typeset in Linotype Janson and Monotype Joanna. Printed in black, red and grey on Saint Armand Old Masters handmade paper. Five sheets printed ‘four-up’, folded into 8-page signatures and trimmed to 19 × 28.5 cm. Two original reduction linocuts by Michael Hepher were printed at Clawhammer Press on tan Hahnemühle Bugra mouldmade paper and were inserted as folios in the centres of the third and forth signatures. Doubled endpapers of Hahnemühle Bugra mouldmade paper. Handsewn. Bound in ochre cloth over boards. Printed paper label on the spine. Issued in a slipcase covered in Bugra mouldmade paper that was printed in black, and wrapped in kraft paper printed in black with a two-col0ur paper label pasted on the front.
